Ohio Knife “Scalp or Be Scalped” with Art Chantry & Field Notes
Creative Brief & Project Results
Ask:
Create the Ohio Knife, “Scalp or Be Scalped” vinyl packaging
Goals:
The primary goal was to create the vinyl packaging for Ohio Knife’s “Scalp or Be Scalped” by bringing together graphic design legends Art Chantry and Aaron Draplin with the We Have Become Vikings Records team.
Results:
The result is a bold and visceral journey into the visual arrangements of Ohio Knife’s “Scalp or Be Scalped,” featuring Art Chantry’s iconic cover design of a knife driven into an Ohio tin-like sign. It was incredible to collaborate with such a legendary artist—Art is the best. Adding to the project, Aaron Draplin contributed his remarkable Ohio Knife “Day and Night” tour notes, making this a true dream project. “Scalp or Be Scalped” on We Have Become Vikings Records brings all the heat.

“With a name like OHIO KNIFE, Jason wanted a sort old school Midwest American Industrial look to it. So, i went to my old tool catalogs and monster magazines and created this BLOODY logo for them.”
“Sometimes, the logo is so descriptive, there’s nothing else to be done, ya know? i’ve never been a fan of abstract generic logo design. Sometimes I HAVE to do that sort of work to get by. But this is really where it’s at.”
